UPDATE: Teen girls brawling in viral video held for investigations

PENAMPANG: Four teenage girls were held for investigations today into a brawl that injured two of their schoolmates.

Three Form One girls and one who was in Form Two were detained at the district police headquarters here at about 2pm for investigations into the fight outside the SMK Limbanak school compound on April 1.

The fight that was caught on video had became viral on social media after it was uploaded.

Acting district police chief Deputy Superintendent Azmir Abdul Razak confirmed the arrests and that investigations are continuing.

He said the two Form One girls who were beaten up had received outpatient treatment at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The father of one of the injured girls had lodged a report about the fight.

All the four suspects however had been released after their statements were recorded for ongoing investigations.

The 50-second video was posted on the Penampang Bulletin Facebook page which showed two girls arguing before a fight ensued involving several others including a few wearing the Malaysian Red Crescent t-shirts.

The video also showed several girls wearing t-shirts with SMK Limbanak name written on the back.

In an earlier report, state Education director Datuk Jame Alip when contacted declined to comment as the case was now being investigated by the police.

However, he assured that action would be taken once details of what had transpired is available following the police probe into the case.
