Man killed in lorry pile-up

KLUANG: A 46-year-old man was killed in a five lorry pile-up at KM64 of the North-South expressway near here at midnight on Tuesday.

Driver, Shaari Sapari, 46, from Taman Keramat, Kuala Lumpur died in the incident that involved a 10-tonne Hino lorry, trailer, 3-tonne lorry and two other small lorries.

Simpang Renggam Fire and Rescue department station chief Mohd Shaiful Md Isa said one of lorries had crashed into a divider and overturned, thus blocking the pathway of other vehicles.

The other four lorries then crashed into the first lorry.

"It took us over an hour to extricate two drivers who were trapped in their respective lorries. One of them died, while two others who were also pinned in their vehicles were seriously injured," he said, adding the injured victims were sent to Enche Besar Hajjah Kalsom Hospital.

Six other people who were in the other lorries were unharmed.

Shaiful said one of the lorries which was carrying live chickens had its content scattered on the expressway.
