Motion to defer party election was tabled by Negri Sembilan MB

SEREMBAN: Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the motion to defer the party election was tabled by him during last Friday's meeting, but not Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak as speculated.

Mohamad, who is also Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar, said he voiced out the proposal as he wanted Umno to give priority on the coming 14th General Election.

“The criticism alleging that the prime minister was the one decided to postpone the party decision because of having problems was not true.

“Because I personally tabled the motion before jointly agreed by the other supreme council members. I am prepared to take full responsibility for it,” he said.

He was speaking after launching the state level dates, Zam-Zam water and Raya clothes distribution programme in conjunction with Ramadan at Wisma Umno here.

Present was UMNO Welfare Bureau chairman Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Rahim.

Last Friday, Najib, who is also the Umno president, announced that Umno's party election, slated to be held sometime next year, will be postponed for 18 months.

He said this would give the current party leadership more time to carry out policies for the people and would allow Umno leaders to strengthen the party in time to face the next general election.
