Siti's early Raya gift for fans

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s No. 1 singer Datuk Siti Nurhaliza has an early Hari Raya gift for her fans — a brand new album aptly entitled Unplugged.

The album is also released to mark her 20th anniversary in the local entertainment scene.

“This is my gift to my fans who have been supporting my career since day one. I don’t think I will be able to be where I am today without the strong support from fans and those around me including family and the media.

“I am forever grateful, and hopefully I will still be given the chance to continue entertaining fans with my music in many more years to come,” she said at the launch of the album at The Duchess Place in Jalan Ampang here on Wednesday.

Unplugged hit music stores last week and it was specially recorded from Siti’s Unplugged concert held last April in Istana Budaya. It is produced by Siti Nurhaliza Productions and distributed by Universal Music Malaysia.

“It’s a relief to finally release this album. It has been one of my dreams to do an unplugged concert and subsequently the album.

“My team and I worked hard day and night, not only for the Unplugged concert, but also for the album too. I hope this album will be able to satisfy fans who couldn’t make it to the concert recently,” said the country’s pop darling.

Unplugged features 20 of her classic hits which were given new music arrangement. They include Aku Cinta Padamu, Biarlah Rahsia, Wajah Kekasih, Kau Kekasihku, Jerat Percintaan, Engkau Bagaikan Permata and Mahligai Asmara.

A bonus is three new tracks - Menatap Dalam Mimpi, Engkau and her latest tune, Mikraj Cinta.

Mikraj Cinta is a special song for me. It marks my debut collaboration with young and talented singer-songwriter Hafiz Hamidun, who is also the composer of the song,” said 36-year-old.

Too make it sweeter, Unplugged will also have special edition vinyl record, set to be released after Hari Raya.

“I am so excited because this is my first time releasing a vinyl album. It’s limited,” said the Kuala Lipis-born artiste.

Also in conjunction with her two decades in the music scene, Siti will see her life adapted into a musical. It depicts her journey to stardom.

“This is like my autobiography which will be presented in the form of musical. I am excited and nervous at the same time.

Set to be staged at IB from Nov 14 to 22, various young actresses have been shortlisted to play a young Siti in the musical. I can’t wait for the outcome,” said Siti who will also be playing herself in the theatre staging.

“We are looking at who portrays me best. We will reveal the full cast in due course,” said Siti, smiling.
