Amrin heads Penang award list in conjunction with Abdul Rahman's 77th birthday

GEORGE TOWN: Auditor-General Tan Sri Ambrin Buang tops the state honour's list in conjunction with Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Abdul Rahman Abbas' 77th birthday this year.

Ambrin will be conferred the Darjah Panglima Pangkuan Negeri (D.P.P.N.) which carries the title Datuk Seri alongside five others at Dewan Sri Pinang today.

He is among 1,275 award recipients to be bestowed various titles by Abdul Rahman over a four-day period.

State Secretary Datuk Seri Farizan Darus said Ambrin led the roll of honour by virtue of his service and contribution to the country as well as Penang.

He said the title was aimed at acknowledging Ambrin's official capacity as the country's auditor-general.

A notable name in the list is Deputy Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Noor Rashid Ibrahim who will be conferred the Darjah Gemilang Pangkuan Negeri (D.G.P.N.) which carries the title Datuk.

Meanwhile, Universiti Sains Malaysia deputy vice-chancellor (Student Affairs and Development) Professor Dr Adnan Hussein will be bestowed the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (D.S.P.N.) which also carries the title Datuk.

Among the recipients to be conferred D.S.P.N is Penang born legendary composer and musician Ooi Eow Jin.

The conferment takes a break on Sunday (tomorrow) and continues next Monday, Tuesday and ends on Thursday.

Farizan distributed a full list of recipients to the media a day ahead of the conferment ceremony in a press conference held yesterday.

He said the ceremony was slated to start at 8am on each conferment day. A gala dinner is held to fete the award recipients today.

Abdul Rahman is to be accompanied by his consort Toh Puan Majimor Shariff at the dinner.

Abdul Rahman's birthday fell on July 11, but the award ceremony, which was supposed to be held then, had been postponed as the date coincided with the fasting month.
