Pre-school teacher killed in accident

KUALA TERENGGANU: A 41-year-old Kemas pre-school teacher was killed on the spot when the car she was in skidded and hit a Toyota Hilux near Kampung Sungai Ikan, here, today.

According a source, the victim, Zaliha Awi, 41, and her son Wan Muhammad Irwan, 6, were in the car driven by her husband Wan Mohd Radhi Wan Derahman, 41, when the accident happened at KM29 Jalan Kuala Terengganu-Kelantan at 8am.

"Mohd Radhi was heading towards Setiu to send Zaliha to attend a seminar," he said.

"Their car, a Perodua Viva skidded and spin several times before it hit a Toyota Hilux which was tailing them before ramming into the reel guard," he added.

Zaliha suffered serious head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, her son Irwan was sent to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah hospital for treatment while her husband escaped with light injuries.

The 57-year-old Hilux driver, a man from Wakaf Tapai escaped unhurt.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Idris Abdul Rafar who confirmed the incident said the case was being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road and Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
