Youth in hot soup for failing to charge electronic monitoring device

KLANG: A 21-year old youth, who had been fitted with an electronic monitoring device, pleaded not guilty at the Klang Magistrate Court today to turning off the beacon and failing to charge the device.

S. Sateesh, was charged under Section 15(4) of the Prevention of Crime Act (POCA) 1959 for failing to adhere to the terms and conditions he had agreed to.

He is the first person to be charged for failing to keep his electronic monitoring device active.

Deputy public prosecutor Rozana Husin prosecuted.

Judge Nor Asma Ahmad set bail at RM12,000 with two sureties.

If convicted, the accused faces a jail term of not less than two years and not more than 10 years.

The case is set for mention on Nov 30. The accused was ordered to surrender his passport to the court.
