Local teen actor takes own life after frustration over SPM paper

KUALA LUMPUR: A teenager, who is also an actor in local Chinese-language TV dramas, is believed to have taken his own life in his family home today.

The 17-year-old, a student at SMK Raja Abdullah, was found hung with his necktie around his neck, in his room at an apartment in Taman Jinjang.

The boy is said to have acted in several local Chinese-language TV series. Teachers had described him as a "bright student."

Sentul deputy police chief Supt Mohd Sukri Kaman confirmed the incident.

It was learnt that the boy had become frustrated after being unable to answer questions in the Additional Mathematics Paper 1 of the ongoing Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia exam, today.

"He told his teacher that he could not answer the questions.

"He also said he wanted to go home but the teacher advised him to stay. He didn't listen and went home anyway," said Sukri.

His teachers became concerned after he failed to show up at school in the afternoon for the Additional Mathematics II paper.

"The teacher made a phone call to the boy's mother, asking for his whereabouts.

"The mother, who works in a shopping mall in KL, then called the boy's aunt to check on him," he said.

That was when the aunt found the boy dead in his room. His necktie, wrapped around his neck, was tied to a window frame in his room.

Police have ruled out any foul play in the incident.

The body has been sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital.
