UPDATE: Remains of Msian soldier expected to arrive home on Wed

KUALA LUMPUR: The remains of Malaysian soldier Captain Hasman Hussin, who killed in a flood disaster in Missouri, United States is expected to arrive home on Wednesday at 1.15pm (local time).

An army spokesman said efforts have been made to find the earliest possible flight and the remains would be brought using a China Airline New York to Malaysia.

"The flight will depart at 12.20am (US time) and expected to arrive at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) at 1.15pm (local time). The flight will transit in Taipei for three hours.

Earlier this morning, the remains of the Captain Hasman were brought to New York at 5.30am (local time)

"As of today, the Hasman's remains have arrived in New York at 5.30am (local time)," said the spokesmen in a press statement today.

However, the statement said Defence Attaché Office in Washington and US authorities were currently looking for another alternatives if they could bring back the remains to the country as early as possible.

Hasman, 33, was attached to the 4 Squadron Royal Army Engineers Regiment based in Syed Sirajuddin Camp in Gemas, Negri Sembilan, before he went for an engineer captain career course in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri on Oct 1. The course was to end on April 15.

He and four course mates were on an excursion when their vehicle was swept away by floodwaters, as was reported to Malaysia's deputy chief of mission in Malawakil, Washington DC, Saiful Annuar
