KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Youth is prepared to play a supporting role in helping Barisan Nasional win the Sarawak state election this year, expected to be held in March.
Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin said he would leave it to Sarawak BN Youth leader Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof to oversee election preparations and head BN Youth’s election machinery.
“I have spoken to all the youth wings of the respective BN parties in Sarawak regarding our preparations. I will chair a BN Youth meeting in the nearest future, and we will open our operations centre in Kuching soon.
“I will also make sure that Umno Youth plays a supporting role (in the state election). The machinery itself will be headed by Sarawak BN Youth,” said Khairy after chairing Umno Youth’s executive committee meeting here today.
Khairy, who is also BN Youth chief, said Umno Youth would play its part in the coming state election by deploying its leaders to several areas.
“We will support Sarawak BN Youth by sending over some of our leaders, who will act as speakers during the campaigning period. I will also go down to the ground to assist our election candidates.”
