CHUKAI: A family of four travelling in a car managed to jump to safety in the nick of time as their vehicle burst into flames along the Km298.3 of the East Coast Highway.
In the 2.50pm incident, Syed Mazlan Afandi Tuan Long, 62, was driving his Citroen with his wife and two children from Chendering in Kuala Terengganu to Kuantan, Pahang when their car experienced some technical fault.
Kemaman police chief Superintendent Mohd Said Ibrahim said Mazlan pulled over his car to the road shoulder and prepared to inspect his vehicle when it suddenly caught fire.
"The victims reported that only had time to safe themselves as the fire spread rapidly and destroyed their personal documents like MyKad and driving licence kept in the car.
"After summoning for help, a highway patrol vehicle arrived and took them to the Kemaman police headquarters to lodge a report," he said.
