Snow thrills for Syarul Ridzwan in Big Apple

PETALING JAYA: Actor Syarul Ridzwan recently got one thing crossed off his bucket list – to set foot in New York.

The actor was there to shoot Opera Cinta and another yet-to-be-titled telemovie. Among the mini entourage to the Big Apple were fellow actors Remy Ishak, Nora Danish, Juliana Evans, Nur Fathia, Umie Aida and her sister, director-actress Erma Fatima.

For Syarul, the trip was made even more special as he got to experience snow for the first time too.

"I was so excited to see snow that I just jumped and rolled on the snow-covered ground. But while all that was fun, we were there to work. So when my scene came up, I found my face completely numb that I just couldn't speak!" said the actor with a laugh.

Syarul added: "I had to jog around the square to keep myself warm and after that we quickly shot my scenes. By the third day, there was a blizzard but despite having been warned by the authorities to stay indoors, people came out to Times Square."

The actor felt sad to see so many homeless people sleeping on the streets in such harsh weather conditions.

"New York is not what I had thought it would be but I still had a great time," said Syarul when met in Sunway Damansara yesterday.

Syarul, along with actor Adi Putra and newbie Janna Nick were recently chosen as ambassadors for Drama Festival Kuala Lumpur 2016, a two-day event taking place from March 17-18 at Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

Those attending the event organized by TV3 and TV9 will get the chance to participate in auditions and workshops, send in short film entries and present ideas at pitching sessions.
