Pulau Pangkor gamblers arrested

LUMUT: Twenty-one people, including a woman, were arrested after they were found gambling in the open at Hwa Eng estate in Pulau Pangkor early today.

During the 2.30am raid, police also confiscated various items used for the gambling activities as well as cash totalling RM1,557.

State Criminal Investigation Department deputy chief Assistant Commissioner Fadzil Ahmat said the raid was jointly conducted by the state Anti-vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) and Bukit Aman Special Task Force for Anti-vice, Gaming and Gangsterism (Stagg).

He said the raid was part of the "Ops Limau" operation which aimed at curbing gambling activities in the open.

The suspects are now being investigated under Common Gaming Houses Act 1953 and could be fined up to RM5,000 or six months' jail or both if found guilty.

The success also received the thumbs up from Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar who congratulated the team through his Twitter account.
