Flood situation in Kuching improves

KUCHING: The flood situation here has improved with the number of evacuees decreasing from 5,688 to 5,533 as of 4pm today.

State Civil Defence Department public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said 155 victims from 40 families had moved out from the relief centres and returned to their homes.

She said the evacuees where placed at 27 relief centres.

"A total of 20 relief centres were opened in Kuching, five in Bau and two in Serian district," she said when contacted.

Earlier, Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem assured that the flood situation was under control despite the continuous wet spell over the past few days.

Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department personnel will be on the ground and are standby round the clock if the floods worsen.
