Negri Sembilan to launch 'Drug-Free Village' competition

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan will introduce a 'Drug-Free Village' competition this year, which will be carried out in all districts in the state.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said the competition is one of the state government's efforts to combat drug abuse among society.

"Through this competition, we will supervise and evaluate the development of the competing villages from time to time, especially on how the community handle and help the authorities in drug-related cases. The evaluation will be based on how the village can reduce the number of drug-abuse cases among their community.

“The winner will be rewarded based on their development," said Mohamad.

“We will continue to work closely with National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) in doing this. We believe this effort will be able to engage more participation among the society to help us to tackle the problem," said Mohamad.

He said families and communities play important roles in the fight against drugs.

“Through such competitions, we hope we can promote a supportive culture in the community - to work together with us by helping the authorities monitor the activities in their villages.

“They are our eyes and ears, especially in providing and reporting any information on drug-related activities in their community," said Mohamad at a press conference after a Profiling and Strategic Plan of the National Anti-Drug Agency (NADA) ceremony held at Wisma Negri today.

Also present was NADA director-general Datuk Suhaimi Abdullah.
