Sarawak closes 43 flood relief centres, 2,366 still sheltered

KUCHING: A total of 2,366 flood victims from 668 families were relocated at 16 relief centres while 43 flood relief centres in the districts of Kuching, Serian, Bau and Samarahan ceased operations this morning.

Sarawak Civil Defence Department public relations officer Siti Huzaimah Ibrahim said as of 8am, 2,366 flood victims from 668 families are still being sheltered at 16 relief centres, compared to 4,251 from 1,176 families yesterday.

She said 16 evacuation centres are still open - six in Kuching, eight in Serian and one each in Bau and Samarahan. She said the six active centres in Kuching are sheltering 850 victims from 201 families, while 1,413 victims from 439 families are staying at the eight centres in Serian.

“In Samarahan, 80 victims from 24 families are being sheltered at a relief centre while 23 victims from eight families are still staying at a centre in Bau,” she said.
