372 seeking shelter in relief centres in Selangor due to floods

KUALA LUMPUR: Three hundred and seventy-two people from 88 families have sought shelter at two relief centres in Kuala Selangor due to flooding following heavy rains yesterday.

The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department reported that the relief centres were opened at Sekolah Merbau Sempak and the Desa Coalfields community hall.

A team of 40 personnel, four vehicles, and three boats were deployed in the operation, successfully relocating 200 victims.

As of this morning, four areas affected by the flood were Kampung Kubu Gajah, Kampung Melayu Subang, Kampung Sri Aman, and Taman Saujana Aman.

Yesterday, heavy rains in the afternoon led to flooding in two areas of Shah Alam, Selangor.

In a statement, the General Operations Force identified the affected areas as Kampung Kubu Gajah and Kampung Melayu Subang.

In Kampung Kubu Gajah, the force estimated the floodwaters to be 0.6 meters deep, with a declining water level trend.

Meanwhile, in Kampung Melayu Subang, the flood was attributed to the overflow of nearby rivers.

The statement indicated that water levels had begun to recede, with the current depth measuring 0.3 meters.
