Report lodged against TMI article

GEORGE TOWN: Parti Cinta Malaysia vice-president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan has lodged a police report over an alleged defamatory article published by The Malaysian Insider yesterday morning.

The article, with the headline "Enough proof to charge Najib over SRC, says MACC oversight committee", allegedly defamed and tarnished the good name of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The report was lodged at the Seberang Prai Tengah district police headquarters late last night.

Huan urged police to investigate the identity of the panel member the news portal was referring to.

"Clearly, the article published had defamed and tarnished the good name of Najib.

"I hope the police will investigate the matter thoroughly," he said.

Huan also called on the police to investigate a statement issued by Tan Sri Hamid Bugo, chairman of the operation review panel, advising the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), that he had not instructed any officers to issue any statements.

The Malaysian Insider portal was blocked yesterday evening after its contents were deemed to violate Section 233 of Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
