Accountant's hand nearly severed in robbery

GEORGE TOWN: An accountant’s hand was nearly severed in a robbery at the parking lot of a shopping mall at Bukit Jambul here.

The woman also lost RM12,000, a mobile phone, her handbag and her personal identification documents in the 11am incident.

The 41-year-old had been walking towards her car in the parking lot after finishing work at the mobile phone shop in the shopping mall when she was attacked by two robbers.

One of the robbers had approached the victim from the back and slashed her left hand.

The duo then took the victim's sling bag and fled from the scene on a motorcycle.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Farid Alathrash Wahid said the victim suffered a cut in her thigh and had her finger veins cut.

He said she was admitted to the hospital for treatment and was still weak after undergoing a surgery.

"However, she is in a stable condition now," he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 394 of the Penal Code.
