Police: Two suspects sought in connection to homemade bombs found in Damansara Perdana

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are looking for two people, including a 39-year-old woman, in connection with the discovery of the homemade bombs at a condominium unit in Damansara Perdana yesterday.

City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Zainuddin Ahmad said the case of the homemade bombs first came about when they received a distress call from someone who heard a loud explosion at a home in Jalan Wan Empok, Sri Petaling, here on Saturday about 1.30am.

He said a team of policemen was rushed to the scene where they found a handcuffed 48-year-old man who had suffered minor burns on his left shoulder.

“The man said two people barged into his home while he was sleeping. One of them was known as 'Ah Chong' and was looking for a Vietnamese woman, believed to be the ex-girlfriend of Ah Chong.

“The victim was handcuffed and beaten up until he lost consciousness. Then, Ah Chong left an object, believed to be an explosive item, in the victim's room before leaving the home,” he said in a statement today.

Zainuddin said the victim’s parents were also handcuffed and saved from the flames caused by the explosive item by a team of firemen working with police, and they were taken to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre for further treatment.

“Following (investigations), police raided the condominium unit in Damansara Perdana in Petaling Jaya at 4.30am yesterday. During the raid, the suspects managed to escape. Checks in the condo unit produced seven homemade bombs, 2kg of syabu and Eramin-5 pills,” he said.

Ah Chong, 37, had a criminal record with previous convictions for drug-related offences, while the female suspect has no criminal record, said Zainuddin

Hundreds of residents at Metropolitan Square in Damansara Perdana were evacuated this morning following the discovery of the bombs.

They were allowed to return their homes after the area was declared safe about noon, when a bomb disposal team extracted the explosives and detonated them at a nearby quarry.
