BESUT: A 24-year-old student was killed while his fiancee suffered head injuries when their car collided head-on with a lorry near Kampung Batang Gergaji, here today.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Zamri Mohd Rowi said the victim, Yushaini Ashfaq Yusuf, a UNITAR student and Wan Nor Farah Farhana Wan Ariffin, 20, both from Pasir Mas, were heading towards Kota Baru from Kuantan.
Yushaini, who was driving, was believed to have skidded into the opposite lane before colliding with a lorry from the opposite direction.
"Yushaini suffered serious head injuries died at the scene. His fiancee also suffered head injuries and was sent to the Besut Hospital for treatment," he said.
He said the lorry driver and his assistant, both from Jerteh, escaped unhurt.
The lorry driver, said police, did not have a valid driving licence.
The case is being investigated for reckless driving.
