Newlywed dies in crash after returning wedding attire

SUNGAI BESAR: Tragedy struck for young newlyweds after being involved in a fatal car accident at Kilometre 53 on the Klang-Teluk Intan road, near Batu 3, Jalan Bernam, Tanjong Karang, last night.

The groom, Norsyam Nasullah Rahim, 23, lost his life when his Perodua Bezza collided with two other vehicles in an incident that occurred around 10pm.

Norsyam was with his wife Aini Hayati Mohd Radzi, 22, who survived and sustained a broken left leg and chin injuries.

There were on their way back to Sungai Besar after delivering their rented wedding attire to a boutique in Kuala Lumpur.

Aini's brother, Muhd Aiman, 25, said the family had celebrated the couple's wedding at Dewan Seri Bernam the day before the unfortunate tragedy and only learned about the accident through Facebook.

"I was on my way home to Kajang when I received the news and immediately rushed to Tanjong Karang Hospital.

"It was then that I was informed of my brother-in-law's death, and of my sister being transferred to Sungai Buloh Hospital for further treatment," he said, describing Norsyam as a shy but kind and friendly person.

He expressed shock over the accident but acknowledged it as "Allah's will" and shared that burial will take place in Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department Assistant Director of Operations Ahmad Mukhlis Mukhtar said his team received a call about the accident at 10.05 pm

A team of six members from the Tanjong Karang Fire and Rescue Station was rushed to the scene, where one person died, and eight others were injured, he said.

"According to preliminary reports, the accident involved a Perodua Bezza, Nissan Almera, and Honda City.

"All the injured victims were assisted by civilians before the fire department arrived at the scene," said Ahmad Mukhlis.

Meanwhile, Kuala Selangor District Police Chief Superintendent Ramli Kasa confirmed that the accident occurred when the Perodua Bezza entered the opposing lane before colliding with the Honda City.

The Honda City driver was a woman in her 30s and suffered a broken right leg, while the man driving the Nissan Almera sustained minor injuries and was in his 50s, he said.

"Based on the investigation, the driver of the Perodua Bezza, coming from Klang towards Teluk Intan, is believed to have lost control of his vehicle, causing it to enter the opposing lane and collide with the Honda City."

Ramli said the collision caused the Perodua Bezza to be dragged for about 11 metres, and the driver suffered severe injuries before being confirmed dead at the scene.

He added that the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
