Teen biker slams into policemen at roadblock

ALOR STAR: A police constable suffered multiple injuries when he was hit by a youth who tried to escape a roadblock at Jalan Kepala Batas traffic light here early this morning.

Muhammad Annas Ikmal Mior Arif Ariffin, 21, sustained a broken left leg and bruises to his face when he tried to stop a 17-year-old boy riding recklessly to avoid the roadblock.

Kota Star district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Rozi Jidin said the youth, who suffered bruises to his hands and knees, was apprehended right after the incident.

“The police constable is now being warded at the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital and is in stable condition,” he said in a statement.

He said that the youth, from Felda Bukit Tangga in Changlun, has been remanded for three days to facilitate investigations under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for careless and inconsiderate driving.

Rozi said during the operation, held from 11pm last night until 7am today, police issued 66 summonses involving 81 offences, including riding without a licence, illegal modification, underaged riders and using irregular number plates.

He added police also confiscated 14 motorcycles, 11 of them from riders who rode without licences and three motorcycles were without road tax.

Rozi said 29 individuals tested negative for drugs.
