Veteran actor Aziz Singah dies at 75

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actor Datuk Abdul Aziz Singah died of prostate cancer about 11pm yesterday, surrounded by his family at his home in Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan.

He was 75.

Aziz was hospitalised at the National Cancer Institute in Putrajaya, but was permitted to return home as his condition was terminal, said his wife Datin Zunita Mohamed.

He died two hours after being brought home.

“He had asked us to bring him home earlier, but because his condition was not stable, we were worried.

“But the hospital allowed us to bring him home as his condition had deteriorated,” she said.

“Alhamdulillah, his last wish to return home was fulfilled.”

Zunita said Aziz’s remains would be prepared for burial at home before being brought to Kampung Datuk Bongek, Negeri Sembilan.

“One of his last wishes was to be buried in his hometown. God willing, he will be buried before Zohor prayers in the family burial plot.”

Aziz was the president of Persatuan Seniman Malaysia, a body advocating the rights of artistes.

Among his notable movies were Sate, Maria Mariana, Impian and Kemarau Cinta.

Television audiences of the 1980s will remember him for his role in the series PJ Holding, the Malaysian version of American drama Dallas.

He played the local equivalent of “JR Ewing”, the antagonist in the series.

Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia president Freddie Fernandez said apart from acting, Aziz was a versatile voiceover artiste, and lent his signature baritone voice to many jingles and TV shows.
