NGO lodges police report against Mat Sabu over MACC slur

KUALA LUMPUR: A non-governmental organisation, Badan Amal Tarbiah Aman Sejagat (Batas), today lodged a police report against Amanah president Mohamad Sabu over his allegedly defamatory remark on the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

In his speech outside the Penang MACC office last month, Mat Sabu allegedly accused MACC of being involved in the 'murder' of Teoh Beng Hock.

Idris Ahmad, the Batas representative who lodged the report, said Mat Sabu's remark tarnished the image of MACC and the country.

"I urge the police to open an investigation paper on Mat Sabu for accusing MACC of murder in the Teoh Beng Hock case.

"What is his intention of bringing up this issue? Teoh's case was closed a long time ago. He should not smear the government agency for his political gain," said Idris to the media outside the Dang Wangi police headquarters.

Mat Sabu's speech at a gathering in front of MACC to show solidarity for Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, was recorded and uploaded to YouTube.
