Policeman struggles with wife for pistol, children injured by stray shot

TASEK GELUGOR: A struggle between a policeman and his wife over his pistol ended badly when his children were injured after they were hit by shrapnel from an accidental shot.

The incident occurred at their home in Kampung Setol around 4pm today.

Penang police chief Datuk Abdul Ghafar Rajab said the policeman had earlier told his wife that he wanted to shoot himself.

The wife then tried to snatch the pistol from him. In the ensuing struggle, the policeman accidentally pulled the trigger, firing a shot to the floor.

The shrapnel struck their five-year-old daughter and three-year-old son in the legs and calf.

Abdul Ghafar said they have detained the 33-year-old policeman for questioning.

"Following interrogation, he claimed that he was disturbed by spirits," he said.
