Kazim, religious school lodge four reports over spread of sexual abuse claims

IPOH: Popular preacher Datuk Mohammad Kazim Elias today lodged police reports against several individuals for allegedly tarnishing his name and a religious school here, following the spread of sexual abuse claim at the school on social media.

The Al-Baraqah Education Centre principal, his lawyer and teachers from Maahad Tahfiz Darul Baraqah arrived at the district police headquarters about 4pm. They spent about 30 minutes with the police.

When met later, Kazim said they have filed four reports, including against a social activist and a television personality.

He said both of them had tarnished his name and the school's image when they posted the issue on their Facebook pages, which went viral.

Kazim said they were also looking at possible legal action against those who spread the issue on social media.

Earlier, at a press conference held at the centre, Kazim promised to take legal action against those who named him and the religious school in a sexual assault (sodomy) claim that had recently gone viral.

He said the stern action was to clear his name and the school's because "many people have said that it was me and the incident happened at the institution under my care."

As for police investigation into the case, Kazim said he and the school management would continue to give full cooperation to the police.

"We will not compromise if the incident did happen and will surrender the suspect, even if he is my own son," he was quoted as saying.

He also said the school had investigated the case, which allegedly happened in April, when the mother of the 10-year-old victim lodged a complaint in June.

However, the case was considered closed after they had recorded statements from those involved and checked the closed-circuit television recording of the alleged scene.

Kazim said people should stop making assumptions on social media and let police investigate the matter.
