JKSB lodges police report over viral post claiming cracks on second Penang Bridge

BATU KAWAN: Jambatan Kedua Sdn Bhd (JKSB) has lodged a police report today with regards to a viral post claiming that the second Penang Bridge is cracking

The report was lodged at the Batu Kawan police station here.

Since yesterday, a video footage has gone viral via WhatsApp, on part of the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah Bridge (JSAHMS) structure.

JKSB said the report was lodged  with the aim of an immediate investigation by the police against user of the WhatsApp application, who spread the 28-second video, which was false and could cause fear and misunderstanding among the public.

"As such, JKSB requests the cooperation of all parties not to spread the video as it contains false information.

"We want to thank all highway users for their attention and cooperation," it said today.

Yesterday, the Penang government denied a viral post claiming that the bridge is cracking.

State Infrastructure Committee chairman Zairil Khir Johari said checks with officials from both Penang bridges showed there was no truth to the viral post.

The video footage which went viral is believed to be an old video, from a location outside of Malaysia.
