Remand extended for eight suspects in mother-daughter murder

JOHOR BARU: Police obtained a four-day remand extension on eight men for their suspected involvement in the recent murder of a mother and her teenaged daughter in Ulu Tiram.

The previous remand order, which ended today, has been extended until Friday.

The remand extension was issued by the Johor Baru Lower Magisrate Court assistant registrar Norhidayah Manaf on all eight suspects, aged between 18 and 32.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

The suspects were nabbed in less than eight hours by police after the bodies of M. Mariayee, 56, and her daughter C. Durga Devi, 16, were found at their house in Taman Puteri Wangsa, Ulu Tiram on the morning of Sept 21.

Police have narrowed down the motive of the case to revenge, which was likely due to unrequited love.

Outside the courtroom, family members of the suspects waited anxiously for an update on the case.
