JDT's Safee disappointed by hoax over his death, to lodge police report

JOHOR BARU: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) football club striker Safee Sali voiced his disappointment over a hoax about his death which was spread through a fake social media account today.

The 32 year-old said he was informed of the false news by a friend at about 4pm today. The "news" had spread on Facebook from an account that falsely used the name of a Malay language daily.

"It is false and I am disappointed this is being spread on Facebook. I am well and will be training as usual at the JDT training centre this evening," said Safee when contacted yesterday.

A screen grab of the news of Safee's demise was uploaded to a Facebook account named "Harian Metro News", which does not exist. The update claimed that the striker had died following a heart attack.

Safee said he will lodge a police report over the case soon.
