PUTRAJAYA: The Health Ministry has recorded 30 confirmed rotavirus cases to date among those who had a visited a waterpark at Bukit Merah since Sept 24.
Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said that out of 70 people who recorded acute gastroenterities (AGE) cases, 42.9 per cent tested positive for the rotavirus.
"Perak has six confirmed cases, Kedah 16 cases while Penang has eight. All patients are stable and only 14 are still being treated at government and private hospitals," he said in a statement today.
He said the 70 AGE cases, involving those aged from nine months to 53-years-old, were reported in three states namely Kedah with 26 cases, Perak (30 cases) and Penang (14 cases).
On the water samples taken from seven locations at the resort, Dr Noor Hisham said only three samples taken from on Sept 28 had a chlorine residual level of over 0.5 part per million (ppm).
"The chlorine residual level standard in swimming pools, based on the Kuala Lumpur City Hall guidelines, is set at between 0.5 ppm and 1.5 ppm.
"All water samples taken on Sept 29 and 30 tested negative for the virus," he said, contributing the negative results to cleaning and chlorine sanitisation exercises conducted on Sept 24 before the water samples were taken by the health authorities.
