IGP: Cops ready for possible Abu Sayyaf entry after Philippines' crackdown

KUALA LUMPUR: Police are on alert into possible attempt by Abu Sayyaf militants from the Southern Philippines to sneak in into Sabah following the nation's all-out crackdown on the militants in the region.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police were always on the watch to ensure the security in Sabah, especially along borders remain steadfast.

"There are ongoing operation to strengthen the security in Sabah, especially along the border because we are worried that the militants would flee to the state.

"It is of utmost importance that we remain vigilant as to disallow militants from easily hiding in our territory following the Phillippines' crackdown on them," he told reporters, after the closing ceremony of 2015/16 Investigative Science Executive Diploma programme at the Royal Malaysia Police College Kuala Lumpur in Cheras.

Khalid said police were also on the lookout for moles who actively source out information to the militants.
