2017 Budget: Greater benefits for civil servants

KUALA LUMPUR: The civil servants will enjoy greater benefits under the 2017 Budget, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak announced today.

He said fully-paid study leave with scholarship, currently limited to Management and Professional Group, had now been extended to the Support Group.

The civil servants would also receive quarantine leave up to five days without record to look after their children, he said.

The other initiative was the allocation of RM5000 computer loan facility to purchase smartphones for every three years, while the motorcycle loan would be increased from RM5,000 to RM10,000.

Civil servant’s housing loans would also be increased between RM200,000 and RM750,000 from RM120,000 and RM600,000 respectively, Najib added.

In addition, he said 30,000 units of Perumahan Penjawat Awam 1 Malaysia would be sold between RM90,000 and RM300,000 each, which are 20 per cent below market price.

The government would also extend the contract of service workers expiring end of this year for at least another year, he said.

To address the issues of specialist doctors leaving the service and promotion delays, he said Grade 56 will be introduced between Grade 54 and JUSA C.

He said the ninth initiative was the appointment of the first group of doctors, dentists and pharmacists on contract at the latest by Dec 2016 to address the issue of constraint in permanent posts.
