Red Shirts have submitted notice for rally, none yet from Bersih

KUALA LUMPUR: City police yet to receive any notice from Bersih for a permit on the upcoming Bersih 5 rally slated to be held on Nov 19.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said police would not allow the Bersih 5 rally to continue unless the organiser submits the notice.

“They (Bersih) have not submitted any notice for its rally, and thus have not yet been given approval. As such, actioon will be taken if they proceed with the rally.

“There are procedures involved. The organiser must obtain consent from the owner of the venue (where the rally is expected to be held). They (Bersih) have to comply (with the requirements) and must at least give notice to the relevant authority.”

Khalid said the Red Shirts faction had on Tuesday submitted a notice to obtain a permit for their upcoming rally.

“We are not stopping any group from assembling to protest; however they must obey the laws and follow the Peaceful Assembly Act,” he said.

An early notice, he said, is necessary to enable the police to make adequate preparations.

Khalid was speaking at a press conference after the “Service Excellence Delivery In Action” Modern Policing graduation ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur Police Contingent (IPKKL) headquarters today.
