Robbery at policemen's homes triggers manhunt for Indonesian suspects

BATU PAHAT: The homes of two policemen were broken into by armed robbers at 3.30am today.

The family members, who were asleep, were rudely awakened by five masked men armed with sickles and knives.

The robbers were believed to be Indonesians.

One of the victims was identified as Corporal Abdul Razak Mamat, 34, and the other was Corporal Hamdan Ramli, 51.

Batu Pahat district police chief Assistant Commissioner Abd Wahib Musa said the incident occurred at No 5 and No 6, Blok K, Kompleks Perumahan Polis Tanjung Labuh here.

"The victims were neighbours," Abd Wahib said, adding that no one was hurt in the incident.

The gang made off with gold jewellery, handphones, a laptop and cash.

A manhunt was launched, and police have rounded up 13 Indonesians since 3.45am to assist in their investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the penal code for armed and gang robbery.
