12 arrested, 6 premises raided, in Nilai anti-gambling operation

NILAI: Police detained 12 people in a raid on an illegal online gambling den here today.

Led by a team from the Nilai District Police Headquarters, the Nilai Municipal Council and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), the five-our operation busted six premises and saw the arrest of one premise caretaker.

Nilai district police chief Superintendent Zaldino Zaludin said 11 gamblers, seven of whom are Indonesians, were also arrested in the operation.

"The team also seized RM2,000 in cash, along with gambling equipment worth RM200,000," Zaldino said.

He added that electricity supply to all raided premises was cut following the raid to avoid them ever being used for gambling again.

"Some of the premises had been raided before. We will continue to monitor them from time to time," Zaldino said.

The case is being investigated under Section 4B (a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953, and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959.
