Man stabbed in chest by 'mentally ill' neighbour

KAJANG: A 31-year-old man was hospitalised after he was stabbed in the chest by a “mentally ill” neighbour outside his house in Taman Cheras Jaya, here, early Saturday morning.

Police said in the 4.30am incident, the victim was chatting with his younger brother outside their house when the outraged 34-year-old suspect appeared.

In an ensuing scuffle, the suspect was said to have taken out a knife and stabbed the victim. He then fled the scene.

Family members then rushed the victim to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Hospital for treatment.

Kajang police chief Assistant Commissioner Othman Nayan said acting on a report lodged by victim’s brother, police met with the suspect’s family members at 4pm.

“After the discussion, the families tried to persuade the suspect to surrender, but failed.

“The police team tried to detain him at the house but the suspect turned aggressive.

“The team manage to apprehend the suspect after using a taser gun on him,” he said.

Othman said the suspect’s family members told police that he was suffering from mental illness and had not received treatment for more than a year.

He said the suspect had caused problems in the community and there were several police reports lodged against him.

The suspect has been sent to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
