Fire razes 10 homes in Sabah's Kampung Pituru

KOTA KINABALU: Ten houses at Kampung Pituru, Pekan Lokawi near here were destroyed in a fire today.

Papar Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said 24 personnel were despatched to the scene after the department received a distress call at 6.28pm.

The team was also assisted by firemen from Kota Kinabalu and Penampang.

The blaze, which covered an area of 0.4 hectare, was brought under control about one hour later.

Meanwhile, in Perak, a tyre factory in Kamunting was partially destroyed in a blaze this evening.

A Taiping Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said about half of the factory's storage area, where hundreds of motorcycle tyres were being kept, was destroyed in the 6.40pm incident.

"No injury was reported and firemen managed to control the fire after two hours," he said, adding that the cause of fire was still being investigated.
