Terengganu floods: More than 7,000 people seeking refuge in relief centres

TERENGGANU: The flood situation has taken a turn for the worse in six districts in the state, with more than 7,000 flood evacuees recorded as of midnight last night.

The state's flood watch online portal stated that as of 11.45pm tonight, a total of 7,752 people from 2,279 family have been moved to 101 relief centres, compared to 3,128 victims from 862 families at 48 relief centres yesterday evening.

The portal said the worst-hit district was Hulu Terengganu, where 2,836 people from 862 families were seeking shelter at 29 relief centres compared to 773 people from 223 families at nine relief centres before.

In the Besut district, a total of 37 relief centres were rlopened compared to 14 relief centres before, to cater for 2,320 victims from 618 families. This morning, the number stood at 1,431 people from 363 families.

In Dungun, the number of evacuees rose to 358 from 95 families compared to 84 victims from 18 families before.

In Marang, 30 victims from 10 families are still seeking shelter at SK Pasir Putih.

The portal also stated that in Setiu, the number of victim increased to 1,597 people from 531 families, up from 627 people from 176 families this evening.

In Kemaman, 611 victims from 263 families have been moved to 13 relief centres compared to 183 victims from 72 families who had sought shelter at eight relief centres before.
