Northern Sabah flood evacuees increase, but river levels drop

KOTA MARUDU: There has been a slight increase in the number of flood victims at temporary relief centres in Northern Sabah.

Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) state director Colonel Muliadi Al-Hamdi Ladin said an additional 22 people joined 612 evacuees taking shelter at seven relief centres.

"There are two centres here, three in Pitas and another two in Paitan and Beluran.

"As of 8am, water at Sungai Bongon and Sungai Bandau here; and Sungai Kebatasan and Sungai Bengkoka in Pitas, has dropped to below the dangerous level," he said.

Muliadi added that the water level at all rivers improved because the rain had stopped.
