Exploding boiler rocks condominium unit in Mont Kiara, expat escapes unscathed

KUALA LUMPUR: A condominium unit in Mont Kiara here was badly damaged after a boiler explosion this morning.

The unit is occupied by a British tenant, who happened to be home during the 9am incident. He escaped unharmed.

City Fire and Rescue Department operation assistant director Ruhisha Haris said two teams from the Hartamas and Hang Tuah stations were deployed to the scene after the department received the emergency call at 9.01am.

“When the teams arrived, they immediately turned off the gas valve and electrical switch to prevent the situation from worsening,” he said when contacted today.

Ruhisha explained that the tenant was having breakfast in the living room when the expatriate heard a loud explosion coming from the bathroom.

He added that the department’s forensic unit discovered that the explosion was caused by the boiler located in the bathroom.

“The impact destroyed 70 per cent of the unit on the 11th floor. We had also informed the Energy Commission on the incident and further action will be taken by the condominium management,” he said.
