MACC nabs ex-N. Sembilan municipal council president with 'Datuk' title

KUALA LUMPUR: A former president of a municipal council in Negri Sembilan has been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) for suspected corruption and abuse of power.

Also detained were three contractors who are believed to have been awarded several projects by the former council president.

According to a source, the suspect, aged 63 and with a "Datuk" title, was arrested at his residence in Seremban at about 11.30am yesterday.

"The suspect is believed to have committed the offences when he was district officer and then municipal council president between Sept 2009 and Aug last year," he said.

MACC director of investigation, Datuk Simi Abd Ghani confirmed the arrest and that the commission is identifying several other people to facilitate investigation. -- BERNAMA
