Parang-wielding drug junkie runs amok, seriously injures couple

PENDANG: A woman almost had her arm severed, while her husband was seriously wounded when a parang-wielding relative ran amok at the couple's house in Felda Sungai Tiang here last night.

It is learnt that in the 8pm incident, the man – a drug junkie relative who lived next door – kicked down the back door of the couple's house and immediately charged on Muhamad Yusob Abdullah, 55, who was in the kitchen.

Kedah Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Mohd Nashir Ya said the man then attacked Yusob's wife, Zaiton Mohamad Salleh, 52, almost severing her arm.

Nashir said during the incident, the couple's three daughters, aged between 20 and 25, and a three-year-old granddaughter, were in the house – but they managed to flee and seek help from neighbours.

"Both victims were rushed to the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital," he said in a press statement today.

Nashir added that the drug junkie was arrested not far from the scene at about 1.30pm today, and initial investigation suggests that the attack was triggered by a family misunderstanding.
