Decomposed body found floating off Pulau Pangkor

LUMUT: The decomposed body of an unidentified man was found floating about 1.4 nautical miles off Pulau Pangkor here on Sunday evening.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) District 3 Lumut director Captain (Maritime) Zulinda Ramly said a fisherman notified the agency about the discovery at 7pm.

The fully-clothed body, entangled with a length of rope, is believed to be of a man in his 30s who is suspected to have died more than three days ago, Zulinda told a press conference here yesterday.

She appealed to people with missing family members to check with the police or hospital, as the MMEA has yet to receive any report of anyone missing at sea.

On another matter, she said an MMEA team rescued four Indonesian fishermen after their damaged boat was found drifting 19.97 nautical miles off Pulau Pangkor on Sunday.

The fishermen, aged between 21 and 43, were taken to the Marine Operations Force Jetty in Kampung Acheh here and were then handed over to the Indonesian Embassy for further action, she said. -- BERNAMA
