SERIAN: Police seized five fake rifles, a pistol, eight magazines and arrested four suspects at Kampung Tebekang Melayu here about 3.30am today.
The case, said District police chief deputy superintendent Aswandy Anis, came about after a police patrol car spotted a suspicious-looking vehicle in the vicinity and ordered the driver to stop.
“However, they refused to stop and fled. Our team chase after the vehicle for about 25km, all the way to Tebedu,” he said.
The police managed to apprehend the suspects as they were approaching the Tebedu Customs, Immigration and Quarantine (CIQ) Complex.
Apart from the fake firearms found in the vehicle, Aswandy said, police also found a bulletproof vest, four straws and a plastic bag containing some crystal cubes, believed to be syabu.
The suspects, aged between 18 and 28, tested positive for methamphetamine.
Speaking at a press conference held at the district police station here, Aswandy said, police are still investigating the men’s intention with the fake firearms.
“These (fake) firearms look exactly the same as the real one. It will definitely cause the public to panic,” he said.
