DAP's Loke dismisses talk of more resignations in party

MALACCA: DAP national organisational secretary Anthony Loke today redirected the question on which of the opposition party's lawmakers in Selangor and Johor were due to resign a week ago, to former vice chairman Tunku Abdul Aziz Tunku Ibrahim.

Tunku Abdul Aziz had on Feb 14, in the wake of the quadruple resignations of three state assemblymen and a member of parliament from the party on Feb 12, stated that two more resignations of the party's stalwarts, one each from Johor and Selangor, were expected within 48 hours.

"It is now more than a week, but there have not been any resignations. So you should ask Tunku Abdul Aziz for the report on this because as far as the party is concerned, there has not been any such thing," said Loke.

On Feb 12, four Malacca DAP stalwarts announced their immediate departure from the party citing a loss of confidence in party secretary general Lim Guan Eng and that the party had strayed from its struggle in collaborating with former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

They were Kota Melaka MP Sim Tong Him, Bachang assemblyman Lim Jak Wong, Kesidang assemblyman Chin Choon Seong and Duyong assemblyman Goh Leong San.

Loke was speaking after a DAP state and federal representatives meeting at the party's state headquarters here, where state DAP chief Tey Kok Kiew announced that the party has set-up teams led by "foster assemblymen" to serve the people in the affected constituencies.

A new service centre in Duyong will be set-up over the next month to serve the purpose of that state assembly seat, while Kesidang and Bachang will be served by the DAP headquarters.

Tey will serve as the foster assemblyman in Duyong, while Ayer Keroh assmblyman Khoo Poay Tiong will assume the same duties in Bachang and Kesidang will be served by Kota Laksamana assemblyman Lai Kuen Ban.

This, Tey said, would ensure the party continued to serve the people in those constituencies as the people had put their trust in the party in the last general elections.
