MACC arrests of Johor gov't officers based on complaints: Johor MB

PASIR GUDANG: The arrests of high-profile officers in the Johor government by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) recently were carried out based on complaints lodged against them for their alleged offences.

Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said those arrested were not randomly "targeted", as there would have been investigations done prior to their arrests.

"I believe that the MACC must have done what they did based on a complaint, or something of that sort.

"The (MACC) would not have simply decided to target them. I don't think it's like that.

“It is better to let the MACC investigate first," said Khaled when commenting on the recent arrests of six men, including the son and special officer to a Johor government official, for involvement in a corruption scandal related to Johor real estate.

Khaled also commented on another MACC case recently, in which four Johor Islamic Religious Department (Jaij) officers were detained for graft.

Asked if the state government plans to conduct internal audits and thorough checks on all state government agencies in the wake of the MACC cases, Khaled said: "We don't know yet. Whatever it is, let the MACC investigate. It will be premature for me to say anything (at this point)," he said after launching a school bus subsidy presentation to 400 school-going pupils from 287 families at Dewan Raya Taman Cendana here.
