KOTA BARU: Police detained a 51-year-old boat operator and seized methamphetamine worth RM4.7 million in Rantau Panjang on Thursday.
Deputy state police chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Din Ahmad said the man was unloading packages from his boat onto the illegal Hassan Merah jetty, and to a nearby un-numbered house, when he was arrested.
"A police team was conducting their routine operation when they spotted the boat operator at about 7.15pm.
"A check inside the house found several packages containing 474,000 pills," he told a press conference here today.
Din said initial investigation showed that the drugs were for local distribution.
He said the man, who is a local, is being held for further investigation.
