Teen detained over FB post allegedly "insulting" to T'ganu Sultan

KUALA TERENGGANU: Police obtained a four-day remand order against a teenager who allegedly posted an insulting comment on Facebook on the Sultan of Terengganu, Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin, yesterday.

The 19-year-old labourer from Dungun, here, was picked up at his house in Kampung Jambu to assist investigations into the alleged offence.

In a press conference at the Kuala Terengganu police contingent headquarters, State police chief Datuk Rosli Ab Rahman said the suspect is being held at the Kuala Terengganu police station.

"He was arrested at 4.50pm yesterday," said Rosli, adding that police are seriously looking into the matter.

Rosli said among items seized from the suspect were a mobile phone and its sim card.

He said the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Multimedia and Communications Act 1998, Section 41 of the incitement Act 1948, and Section 500 of the Penal Code.

"We received three reports following the (Facebook) posting, and are now tracking down the suspect's friend to help the probe," he added.
