Police arrest 3 in Kepala Batas 30km high-speed chase incident

KEPALA BATAS: Police has denied reports of a suspect being shot dead in Taman Pauh Jaya, Kepala Batas yesterday, which went viral on social media.

It was understood that in the 1.30pm incident, police did arrest three suspects believed to be involved in a spate of burglaries in the state.

Seberang Prai Utara OCPD Assistant Commissioner Azmi Adam said police arrested the trio, aged between 24 and 31, after a 30km high-speed chase.

Police were understood to be pursuing the three suspects after an alleged robbery at Taman Rubina in Teluk Air Tawar yesterday afternoon.

The chase ended when the suspects in a Honda City, crashed their vehicle into a tree at Taman Pauh Jaya.

Azmi said initial investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in at least 26 cases of burglary in Seberang Prai Tengah, Seberang Prai Selatan and southern Kedah, since January.

“There were no shots were fired in the incident and three suspects expected to be remanded this afternoon.

“We also seized two stolen cars and a variety of items including jewelleries, bags, household furnishings and equipment believed to be used to break into the houses,” he said at a press conference at the district police headquarters here today.

The case is being investigated under Section 457, Section 392 and Section 397 of the Penal Code.
